Kylie To Promote In The US (100th Post)

Kylie plans to promote herself more extensively in the US upon the release of her new album "Aphrodite". After her extremely successful tour of the US and Canada last fall, the Impossible Princess has decided that this is indeed the right time and the right album to break new ground in North America.

"I feel like this is my best album yet. I really feel positive about America this time." Minogue explained.

"I sprung into action last year on my tour over there. The fans were so amazing. It was the first time they saw me, but it was like preaching to the converted. I can't wait to go back and try again!"

This, of course, could not make me happier. The idea of possibly seeing Kylie in concert again on a full fledged tour this time is an intoxicating thought. Speaking of happy moments, this is my 100th post on this blog. Way to go me! *Pats himself on the back*

Among other topics, she also talked about her health, her boyfriend (spanish model Andres Velencoso, whom she had repotedly broken up with, guess that's cleared up), and her perfume collection. Thanks to one of my favorite music blogs, Hard Cardy Music, I have come across this amazing (newly released) megamix, featuring snippets of 6 more songs from Aphrodite, including, Get Outta My Way, Cupid Boy, Can't Beat The Feeling, Too Much, Put Your Hands Up and Aphrodite.

So if you're finding it hard to contain yourself until the release of this album, give it a listen. I gotta say that Get Outta My Way sounds like pop perfection and the album will be a dancerific summer hit.

Here it is, as promised. The brand spanking (did somebody say spank?) new video for Kylie's first single from her forthcoming album "Aphrodite". It's an "orgy" of lovers (male on female, male on male, female on female), creating a volcano of white hot summer fun with Kylie at it's core. It's an absolutely gorgeous video for a perfect summer hit. Be sure to watch it before somebody takes it down off of youtube. I'll repost it if that happens though. Amazing stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aphrodite Album News And Track Listing!!!!!

It's been quite awhile since I've added to any of my blogs but I've either not been in the mood or been unable to write do to scheduling conflicts and my life does take precedence. However, this is of course very exciting news and I've been dying to get on and write about it.

Kylie's 11th full length studio album "Aphrodite" is being released on July 5th and the video for the first single "All The Lovers" was released to video stations around the world today (to be posted soon).

According to the press release for the album,

"'Aphrodite' sees Kylie return to the dance-floor, with a string of high profile collaborators from the pop and dance worlds including: Calvin Harris & Jake Shears, Sebastian Ingrosso (Swedish House Mafia) & Luciana Caporaso, Nerina Pallot, Richard X, Cutfather, Nervo and Tim Rice-Oxley."

Although I feel that my review was sufficient enough for this blog, I do feel that it's important to include the words of proper reviewer's as well, mainly because I don't really consider myself a writer, I'm just a fan with some time on his hands. Here is the review from the Toronto Star about the Toronto show (obviously).

Canada's a bit more tuned in than the States, but Kylie Minogue's audience in North America still largely seems to consist of gay men and geeky music writers who over the years have consistently found themselves as wooed by the wee Aussie superstar's classy brand of haute couture pop as they have her feminine wiles.

Critics don't tend to buy records and concert tickets, mind you, so Kylie has her boys to thank for the resounding success of her first tour of these shores, a modest, six-city, nine-day jaunt that finally arrived 22 years into Minogue's singing career at the Air Canada Centre on Friday night. The men, in fact, outnumbered the women about two-to-one in a modest, but passionate crowd of maybe 10,000, prompting my friend Daniel – who writes for Fab magazine and is therefore a reliable authority on these matters – to remark: "It's like Pride Week in here. This is gayer than Madonna."

Only halfway into its run, this "test" tour has gone so much better than expected that the 41-year-old Minogue has reportedly already been offered a residency in Las Vegas, which is likely bad news for Celine Dion but very good news indeed for the legions of Kylie faithful on these shores who've been denied easy access to the high-glam stage spectacles she's been taking to the rest of the planet all these years.

Good news for Kylie, too, as her whole mystique makes a lot more sense once you've seen her perform. She exudes such a charming and friendly persona from the stage that she made the act of descending from the ceiling atop a giant, metallic skull whilst wrapped in multicoloured boas and sporting what looked like a model of a solar system on her head seem almost down-to-earth.
That was just for the opener, "Light Years." Once on the ground, she let a co-ed troupe of eight dancers clad in helmets and skin-tight fetish-wear handle most of the footwork while she slunk coquettishly, but gracefully through their taut robo-choreography, singing (mostly singing, anyway; there might have been a few "guide vocals" here and there) the robust dance-pop ditties "Speakerphone" and "Come Into My World" in a variety of stylized poses.

Costume changes courtesy of designers Jean-Paul Gauthier and Alexander McQueen abounded as the two-hour performance wore on, while a production that no doubt cost a minute fraction of the last Madonna tour's budget made the most of a set that relied primarily on a couple of risers and a few modular, moving LED screens drenched in multicolour graphics and video clips depicting Kylie and her dancers in various states of ingenious undress.
The more elaborate set flourishes, meanwhile, were tailored to the fans who Minogue clearly holds dearest to her heart. A replica bathhouse complete with steam jets, bamboo screens and four chiselled hunks of shirtless man-candy working up a lather in checked shower stalls was unveiled for "Red Blooded Woman," while a string-soaked recording of Dorothy's "There's no place like home" speech from The Wizard of Oz and a video reel of Kylie in Judy Garland drag teed up a goopy mid-set ballad sequence. "If you're gonna go gay, go gay," remarked the gentleman behind me.

Minogue then emerged from the shadows clad in a white evening gown to deliver "White Diamond" and "Confide in Me" from the comfort of an oversized chaise longue flanked by life-sized bronze panthers. Somehow she pulled it off without looking totally ridiculous, just ridiculous enough.

All of this, of course, would be empty without the mighty catalogue of hits with which Kylie has been blessed since she outgrew the Stock, Aitken & Waterman-abetted teenage output such as "The Loco-motion" (still her biggest hit in Canada and the States, sadly) and started putting a populist spin on contemporary club music. Her other transatlantic smash, 2001's frosty electro-pop masterpiece "Can't Get You Out of My Head" had the room in a predictable tizzy, but it came early in a tight set list stocked with international hits – "Slow," "2 Hearts," "In My Arms" – that proved equally familiar singalongs in the hands of true Kylie devotees. There was also a lone new number, an impossibly catchy disco detonator called "Better Than Today," that would seem to herald more hits to come. Kylie didn't totally sweep her dubious past under the rug, either, donning a black negligee and yet another pair of thigh-high boots to recast "The Loco-motion" as a feline burlesque romp.

"It was really difficult getting here, but now that I'm here it feels totally perfect," a pleased-looking Minogue said at one point. I doubt anyone here who gets what she's about would be inclined to disagree.

My Dreams Of The Impossible Princess Come True!

OMG! I want to start off by saying that this isn't technically a review but more of a gigantic love fest to celebrate what I witnessed tonight.

As I have mentioned many times before, I (like many other fans) have been in love with Kylie and followed every step of her career since The Loco-Motion (since my brother received her 1988 self-titled debut album as a gift for his birthday, I never let her music go out of my head). And thanks to trips to the UK, and amazing relatives in the UK that continually supported my love for her artistry by providing me with albums when they were not available to purchase in my nativeland, I was able to keep up with her evolution. With the music came the dvd's of tours that I never got to see with my own eyes, and I was resigned to the fact that it may never happen.....UNTIL TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twenty one years of waiting, and let me tell you.... it was worth every single minute. When I got myself down to the Air Canada Centre (along with my friends Dean and Erin) I was a bit perturbed, because when I got myself to one of the many merchandise kiosks, all of the Tour Books in the building had already sold out (bummer). I later bought myself a poster and came home and ordered a tour book and keychain off her official website. But back to the good stuff. Sitting in our seats waiting for the show to start, I was fidgeting and plotzing so hard.

Then the lights went down, the sound came up, Kylie's band played a Hollywood film like intro before the curtain went up, the lasers came on, the countdown for Light Years started and Kylie descended like a futuristic princess standing atop the gleaming disco skull of "KYLIEXTOUR2008" fame. I was out of my mind on the inside, but quite calm on the outside because I had to take in every single moment. "Please, fasten your seatbelts. My Name Is Kylie!", the crowd went absolutely nuts as she spoke the iconic bridge of Light Years. "Thank you for choosing to fly KM AIR, we hope you'll have a pleasant flight!" No worries there, Darling.

I won't go into a play by play of the songs she did because everyone has seen the setlist (although it's not entirely accurate) but some of the evenings highlights (for me) were,

1) The performance of the new song "Better Than Today" (I can't wait until a studio version of this song is released, so much fun).

2) The "Shocked/What Do I Have To Do/Spinning Around Medley" which was one of my fave moments from Showgirl.

3) "Boombox/Can't Get You Out Of My Head" which was definitely a crowd pleaser.

4) "Slow" (I can't believe how amazing this song is live. It's never been a big favorite of mine but seeing it live, not on dvd, is fucking unbelievable).

5) "Red-Blooded Woman" with her hot as hell male dancers in the shower scene. My friend Erin's personal favorite. Plus the chorus of Where The Wild Roses Grow making a cameo. AMAZING!

6) "Confide In Me" one of my favorite songs by her, and the point in the show where my friend Dean said to me, "I didn't know she could sing like that, live." Hell yah, she can! Plus her gown was absolutely gorgeous during this number.

7) "I Believe In You" (Ballad Version) The moment in the show where I started to get teary eyed because I simply couldn't believe this was actually happening, and when the rose petals started to fall.... it was like a beautiful dream.

8) "The Loco-Motion" (Cabaret version) Super fun and got the older woman in front of me moving her body which was adorable. Plus it's the song that introduced a lot of us to Kylie so it was an important moment in the show.

9) "Kids" Got everybody rockin'!

10) "The One" (With Alternate Beginning) The energy of the crowd somehow shifted into overdrive halfway through this number and went into a whole new stratosphere with the next which was.......

11) "Your Disco Needs You" While the crowd was assaulting Kylie with screams of adoration she decided to take a song request from us and this camp classic from the Light Years album won over all others and the crowd went berzerk. Me included.

12) "Love at First Sight" The perfect song to end the night on. Although I never wanted it to end (and I wished she would have done I Should Be So Lucky), the crowd was in maximum overdrive and this song just brought us all to our knees.

I only sat down once during the whole show (during the ballad section between White Diamond and the bridge of I Believe In You), and I was sad to see it end, but I am hopeful that we made an impression on her and she will return sooner than we expect and dazzle us all again with her superior shows. I've never heard the Air Canada Centre so loud with screaming fans at only half capacity (the 300's section was blocked off) which just goes to show that Miss Minogue is truly a phenomenon. I cried, I partied, I danced, I sang, I screamed myself hoarse and it will probably remain in my memory as the greatest show I have ever seen. She is a consumate performer and makes such a warm connection with her audience. I love you Kylie! Thank you for making this the greatest night of my life so far (well, tied with the first night I saw Madonna live).

I hope she has filmed the show or will be doing so during her last few shows in New York. I would absolutely love to have a dvd of this concert. I know it was a mash up of all of her past shows but still. I want to remember that moment forever.

Here's a small message from Team Kylie regarding the attendees of the show on Sunday night at the Hollywood Bowl in LA, and what's to look forward to as they move the show to Chicago for their show on Wednesday night. They're almost in Toronto. YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A quite spectacular show – befitting all the Hollywood glitz and glamour! A huge amount of energy and love in the Bowl!

It will now be taking place at the UIC Pavillion instead of The Congress Theatre. The switch was made because the scale of the production is simply too large to fit in the Congress. Due to this move, an additional block of tickets has been released for those fans who were unable to purchase tickets the first time around. So grab them up quick!

Kylie Minogue: The "Let's Get To It" Tour

With all this mentioning of the latest KYLIEUSA2009 tour I thought it might be fun to look back on some of Kylie's earlier tours, like this one from 1991 in support of the "Let's Get To It" album. This tour (which was only 12 shows long) only went through the UK and Ireland and was considered a continuation (for the British fans)of her earlier "Rhythm Of Love" Tour. Fun Fact: Kylie's wardrobe for this tour was created by fashion designer John Galliano. So let's Step Back In Time and witness this tour for ourselves. Opening Night - Oh What A Night!

Team Kylie has submitted their own personal thank you to the fans in San Francisco who went out to support and witness Kylie's opening night last night. Here is their message.

What an incredible opening night! What a crowd and what a vibe!

One last dress rehearsal this afternoon and then it all came together perfectly. The always accommodating “Fox Theatre” in Oakland has helped Team Kylie out so much over the past couple of days – and it all paid off tonight.

Fans queued for hours prior to the doors opening whilst the crew made the finishing touches to the show. When 8:30pm rolled around and Kylie came on stage, the atmosphere was electric. Fans screaming, the merchandise stand packed and everyone having a great time.

A special mention to the amazing fans who took the time to dress up – we loved seeing your costumes and cant wait to see what tomorrow night brings.

KylieUSA2009 First Show Review Contains Spoilers

There are plenty of reviews floating around about Kylie's first performance last night in San Francisco, most of which written by pleasant (yet somewhat ignorant) journalists who seem to believe that Kylie's onstage costumes are completely ripped off from the likes of Beyonce and Lady GaGa. What said journalists don't understand is that the complete opposite is true. Kylie has been performing in these revealing futuristic costumes for almost 8 years now (see the FeverTour 2002 DVD). They really should study her work in Europe before they make stupid comments. However one reviewer that I have found (and happens to be a fan) makes no such comparisons.

Here is the review by Gordon Elgart from spinningplatters.com. Beware, this post does contain a few spoilers.

First off, a spoiler warning. Although usually seen in movie reviews, I think one applies here. If you don’t want to know what songs she played, how many costume changes there were, and how she reworked some of her classic songs, then read no further. If, on the other hand, you want to know what’s coming soon, or you aren’t going to have a chance to see for yourself, jump on board, take a ride, yeah.

When I arrived at the Fox at 6:15 tonight, the line to get in was enormous. I don’t know how long people had been waiting to see Kylie (20 years, I guess for some), but there was an absolute electricity in the air. This was going to be big. Then the front of house manager explained to us that this was the biggest show yet put on at The Fox, and may be the biggest one it will ever do. And oh my, was it ever.

At 8:30, the lights went down and we heard an overture of film music. This is the pre-roll and lets everyone know to hurry up and get to their seats. Then, the music to “Light Years” kicked in as a giant silver skull started descending from the rafters. And who was on that skull? Why Kylie Minogue of course. Costume one: A cyberbunk thing with feathers and an odd hat that looked like orbiting planets. The crowd went absolutely bonkers. This was the first of many times that the crowd would go absolutely bonkers.

When the dancers came out dressed like Sorayama paintings, and began their choreographed moves with Kylie, every single dance step was met with huge amounts of applause and screaming. The show has barely begun. After a cyberbunk dirty disco rendition of “Come Into My World,” she finished the cyberpunk portion of the show with “In Your Eyes.”

She then came back out and did a medley of some of her Stock Aitken Waterman hits. Costume two: sexy leather with shiny vest, cute and sexy. After this medley, she came back out in another costume. Costume three: sexy cruise director borrowing the captain’s hat. She proceeded to play more hits, and this is where “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” showed up, not the end like might be expected. During the sailing portion of the show (in which her background dancers were wearing catcher’s masks and Folsom gear), she finally introduced a three-piece horn section, making her stage entourage complete. Because I kept count, I can tell you there was: a drummer, bass player, guitarist, keyboard player, two background singers, three horn players, and eight ridiculous dancers.

During the next break, the giant video screens started showing shirtless guys showering. The crowd starting whistling and hollering. Then the screens went up to reveal her four male dancers, shirtless, underneath stage showers. They fake showered for a bit, and then they did a bunch of crazy shirtless gymnastic antics before revealing Kylie and her latest costume for the next set of songs. Costume four: black rhinestone-laden leotard and black/nude tights. I decided somewhere along the way, and wrote it in my notebook here, that Kylie was honestly having a great time, and wasn’t just faking it. I can imagine she had some doubt about the reception she might get from American audiences, and the crowd was so audibly appreciative, I think she was sincerely taken aback.

Before I knew it, the set changed again, and this time Kylie was revealed sitting on a giant couch inspired by early Hollywood musicals. Costume five: Hollywood musical gown. Stylish. She sang some slower songs here, and took on the role of a classic film star. It was pretty classy. They even dropped paper rose petals as she finished “I Believe in You.” So where do you go from classy?

Costume six: My fashion knowledge is too limited to know what this is called other than hot black stage lingerie. This next set was the “I’m Kylie Minogue and I’m damned sexy” part. First off, you’d have to been sleeping through the show not to notice already that Kylie Minogue is an extremely attractive woman who actually sings live. This already makes her the sexiest pop star alive. So when she did the stripper-music version of “Locomotion” including some great “swing your hips now” action, it was just showing off at this point. When she pulled out the song “Kids,” Robbie Williams did not appear on stage, and his part was played by one of her background singers. (They left out Robbie’s rap. It wasn’t missed.)

Finally everyone left the stage. The crowd went ballistic. Personally, I both shouted and twittered “Kylie! Kylie! Kylie! Kylie!” She came back out all on her own–no dancers or lasers–and did an energetic version of “Better the Devil You Know” with lots of opportunity for crowd participation. Costume seven: That shiny black leotard again, but this time with plain black tights. Then she brought back her dancers for a curtain call (they were all wearing “I Heart KM” t-shirts, available at the merch booth) before finishing with “The One” and “Love at First Sight.”

This was easily the best show I’ve seen at The Fox in Oakland, and may be the best for some time. Kylie Minogue is a great performer, and the entire show is so much bigger than the room, it can blow away anyone who might come into contact with it. I’m glad to have been there, and I’m glad to be going back tomorrow. If you’re wavering about paying some ungodly price to go, but it’s actually in your price range, I say take a deep breath and go for it. You won’t be disappointed.

"The fans in America aren't great in number, but they're great in spirit. And they've been so patient. I think I really shocked them when I said I was touring, because they've become accepting of the fact that it was never going to happen. But I meant it, all the years I spent saying I would love to tour the States."

"I decided not to go somewhere I've never been before, direction-wise, because American audiences haven't seen my live shows for the most part. So we decided - and I guess it works well in these financial times - to bring with us a "best of" my different tours."

Hand On Your Heart (Music Video)

Recorded in February 1989, 'Hand On Your Heart', the first single from Kylie's second album 'Enjoy Yourself', debuted on British charts at No.2 on week of release - the second time she had achieved such a feat. The single took the #1 spot the following week and became her third #1 single in the UK charts.

The song didn't fare as well on the charts in her homeland, reaching the #4 spot, but it was released as a special limited edition 7" and 12" vinyl, in posterbags featuring different artwork from the UK cover.

The video for the song features Kylie playfully dancing around an abstract room full of mirrors and dressed in many a primary color, all the while being teased by little cartoon hearts flying around her. This fan favorite (which Kylie has since admitted was one of the most uncomfortable and awkward to shoot) was directed by Chris Langman in Kylie's hometown of Melbourne. Which dress is your favorite? My Dream Come True

I am sooooo excited to announce that I have gotten tickets for Kylie's first ever show in Canada, coming to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on October 9th. Like many, I was a bit upset yesterday when the pre-sale for the show started. The pre-sale was for AMEX Gold card carriers and fans who had signed up for her official mailing list. The mailing list fans were to receive an e-mail before the presale started at 10am with a special code word enclosed within to purchase tickets. However, many of us (myself included) were most upset when the e-mail didn't arrive until 10:45 or later, leaving us all ticketless.

By some saving grace, because the initial pre-sale tickets had gone so quickly, Camp Kylie chose to release more tickets this morning.... and so, here I am, a happy boy indeed counting down the days until I go see Kylie in the flesh.

I have been a fan of Kylie's since I was 6 or 7 years old. I can still remember my Brother getting her first album on cassette for his birthday and me falling in love with her music (especially the Loco-Motion which my Mom liked to listen to as well because she was familiar with the Little Eva version). I also immediately liked her because we shared a similar first name, my name being Kyle, and it was the first time I had ever heard the name Kylie. Nowadays that sort of thing wouldn't have any effect on me, but when you're 6..... weird things matter to you. I guess I thought she was a kindred spirit because I believed the name Kyle was a rare name (it was not often I ran into another kid named Kyle or had one in any of my school classes) and any variation of that name was special to me. I was a strange child okay? I also once believed that I was responsible for Gloria Estefan's bus accident. Go figure!

Given that Kylie's albums after her second release, 1989's "Enjoy Yourself", were no longer released widely in Canada, it became harder to collect her music, but between paying high prices finding them in import sections in record stores in Toronto, buying them in record stores in Scotland on one of my many trips there to visit family, and having a great cousin over in Scotland to bring me the latest album when she visited, I have been able to sustain my collection.

And now here we are, Kylie has been making a name for herself in North America since the release of Fever and it's finally come time to perform for her many adoring fans on this side of the pond. Get your tickets as soon as you can because they are sure to go fast. The official onsale date is this coming Friday May 15th at 10am, but if you care to join in on the presale and get your tickets a bit earlier, the fanclub password is COSMIC. Good luck.

I am so sorry I have been neglecting this space for awhile but if anything could bring this site back to life, it is definitely the announcement of Kylie's very first North American Tour.

The Impossible Princess made a public announcement today that she will be doing a very special 6 show Tour throughout the US and Canada this fall entitled the For You, For Me tour. The show will be a departure from her most recent 2008"X"Tour, with an entirely new setlist and stage production.

In the press release, the tour promoter Bill Silva (who has worked with the likes of Madonna and The Rolling Stones) stated,

"Kylie has such a successful career outside of North America that it has taken quite a while to find a window in her schedule for the U.S. and Canada,”

“Her amazing fans in North America will be well rewarded for their patience when they experience her show and its entire spectacle. We are confident in the tour’s success, and hope that Kylie will make this the first of many tours to our shores.”

"I've wanted to tour in America and Canada for years and know that fans have been waiting a long time for this, " said Minogue. "I'm thrilled that the opportunity has finally arrived."

Alone Again (Unreleased Song)

I didn't really want to add video's of the fan made nature to the site but I decided to vote against myself and add this one because I really enjoy this unreleased song from Kylie which was written by Madonna and Rick Nowles during the creative process of Madonna's Ray Of Light album (1998).

Once it was scrapped from Ray Of Light, the song was given to Kylie for inclusion on her album Fever (2001). Kylie recorded the song but it did not make the cut for the album and talk later surfaced that it would be included as a b-side to her single "Come Into My World", but these plans also fell through.

The track has to this date not been officially released but it was overheard in Kylie's recent documentary "White Diamond" during scenes of her discussing her ex boyfriend Olivier Martinez. Madonna was thanked in the credits of the film.

The rumourmill has been abuzz with reports that Kylie has found a new man. Kylie, who split with her long time boyfriend, actor Olivier Martinez last year, was seen in the arms of Spanish supermodel Andres Velencoso at burlesque artist Dita Von Teese' birthday party.

On lookers were reported as saying, "It was Dita's party but Kylie was definitely the star of the show. She was turning heads and people were asking about the guy she was sitting with."

Velencoso, who has posed for designers from Emporio Armani to Chanel, is 10 years younger than Kylie and bears a striking resemblance to Martinez. I say go for it Kylie.

The Minogue Sisters Take It All

This is almost literally every gay man's musical wet dream come true! As mentioned in her interview on Rove Live, Kylie intends to take back her "biggest gay icon" stature from Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo by recording a duet with her sister Dannii.

The two sisters who have performed only a handful of times together (most recently Dannii joined Kylie to sing the Robbie Williams duet Kids during one show of her sisters Showgirl Homecoming tour), have joined forces and recorded a cover version of the ABBA classic "The Winner Takes It All" which will be used as the theme song for the new BBC2 comedy sitcom "Beautiful People".

The song will be featured as part of the soundtrack for the show that will be released in stores October 20th in the UK. Anything would be better than hearing Meryl Streep trying to sing it in Mamma Mia! Sweet Lord, that was awful.

Kylie: The Musical

Kylie is set to start writing a musical for the West End in London that will be based around some of her biggest hits.

She is joining together with Australian author and friend Kathy Lette to write the dialogue for the show and she promises her fans that the show will be raunchy. Kathy says,

"We'll weave all her hits together into a great storyline,"

"Kylie never does anything naff. She's got a finely tuned crap antenna and we don't suffer from an irony deficiency."

Kylie's sister Dannii is also reported to be working on the project and they all hope to turn the musical into a film if it's a success. I would say that this is a bad idea but it seems to be the big thing to do these days. This is very "The Boy From Oz", or even Jersey Boys. Some make it and some don't.

The next logical step is of course to add the actual video for On A Night Like This, the second single from Kylie's "comeback album" "Light Years" (2000).
The song has been recorded by two other artists besides Kylie. Once by Swedish performer "Pandora" in 1999, and by Greek performer Anna Vissi in early 2000. Kylie's version was released September 11th, 2000 and went to #2 in the UK charts behind Modjo's "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)". However the single did initially go to #1 in the Australian music charts upon it's first release, slipped down to the #5 position and jumped back up to #1 following Kylie's performance of the song during the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The track subsequently holds the record for biggest jump back to number 1.
The video (as mentioned below) was shot in Monte Carlo and features actor Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) as Kylie's sugardaddy.

Considered by many to be the birth of "SexKylie", Ms. Minogue took control over her public image with the release of her first single from her third studio album "Rhythm Of Love" (1990).
Gone were the hoop earrings, big hair, and cute clothes of her 80's girl next door image, Kylie graced the screen with slick figure revealing clothes, dark eye make-up and a new sense of freedom. The music also changed from infectious bubblegum pop, to a more stylized dance sound.
Better The Devil You Know was released April 30th, 1990, debuting at the #5 position on the UK charts but then moved up to the #2 spot, becoming Kylie's 10th top five single release in Britain. The video features her in different dance club scenario's (a staple for dance pop music video's of the early '90's) and being held in the arms of her lover.
Many felt (and Kylie agreed) that Kylie's image change was due to the influence of her then boyfriend Michael Hutchence, who publicly claimed that one of his favorite hobbies was "corrupting Kylie".

For some reason, Kylie's old ex-boyfriend (and ex Neighbours castmate) Jason Donovan, who neglected to mention anything about his exgirlfriend in his latest Autobiography "Between The Lines", is now blabbing in the media about their first sexual experience together.

The two initially met when they were cast to play their respective roles of Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours in 1986. The two characters fell in love despite their families objections and got married in the summer of 1987. The Scott and Charlene wedding episode was one of the highest rated episodes in the shows history.

Off screen, Kylie and Jason had sparked a similar relationship and were the young golden couple of Australian media.

Jason just announced that his first sexual experience with Kylie was at a Travelodge Budget Hotel in Sydney.

"It was practical and had a bed and a telly."

He also revealed why his relationship ended with the showgirl. Stating that Kylie told him over the phone that their relationship was over, when she started seeing late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence in 1989.

"I don’t see it as humiliating. If you’re going to lose someone you might as well lose them to Michael Hutchence."

Michael was very integral in Kylie's ditching of her girl next door image which she had gained from her first two albums.

Look at how acrobatic her male dancers are, climbing all over and hanging on that cage. I can't even imagine how much strength you would have to have to hold your entire body up and out like that while holding on to a poll. Madness.

Yet another track from the latest album, Kylie brings on the naughty girl as she performs the avant garde, new dance track Nu-di-ty. This may be one of my favorite songs from the album. It's very unusual.
I enjoy the fact that the front "extention's" part of her hair is simply a headband with hair pieces attached to it, while her real hair is in an updo in the back. Way to save time. Notice the Manga girl on the screen in the background?

The second section of the show entitled "Cheer Squad", features Kylie and her dancers in full on Pep Rally gear (with Kylie as the head Cheerleader). The first song in the section is the bouncy Fergie-esque "Heartbeat Rock" ("X" 2007) with a parody of the Toni Basil classic "Hey Micky" mixed in for good measure.
The reworked lyrics "Hey Minnie, you're so fine..." is in dedication to her nickname Minnie, which is a cutening of Minogue and for the fact that she is so tiny.

From Speakerphone we delve right into Kylie's biggest hit to date, her Blue Monday remix version of Can't Get You Out Of My Head (Fever 2001). The song starts off with the spoken word jive of the currently unreleased track from the Body Language era, "Boombox".
I love that she doesn't overdo her movements to the point where her singing voice suffers for it. She moves around enough to keep your focus and let's her dancers do the rest of the work. I think Madonna should learn from that, sometimes.

Kylie is still in the middle of touring with her 2008 Xtour, but back in August, the lucky Kylie fans in the UK were treated to a special television showing of one of Kylie's shows at the 02 Arena in London on 4Music TV.

Lucky for us, I've found the entire tv special and will be posting it in order.

The show (which is Kylie's biggest and best to date) has seven distinct sections to it. First off we have the "Xlectro Static" section which starts off with a futuristic video for the song Speakerphone ("X" 2007) displayed on the giant projection screens which act as a backdrop for the entire show. The screens split apart to reveal Kylie in a black Spiderwoman style dress emerging on a platform within in a giant hoop.

Put Yourself In My Place (Acoustic): MTV's Most Wanted (1995)

Back on July 20th, 1995, Kylie performed two acoustic songs on the MTV UK show MTV's Most Wanted. Though it is available to put up on my page I am only going to add the two performances and not the interview portion of the show (it's a really stupid and pointless interview but the performances are great).

First up we have an acoustic performance of "Put Yourelf In My Place" from her self titled 5th album. I enjoy this version of the song.

If You Don't Love Me: MTV's Most Wanted (Live 1995)

Secondly, Kylie performed the beautiful piano ballad If You Don't Love Me, which was released as a b-side for her song "Confide In Me" and would later make it onto her compilation album "Hit's +" which was dedicated to her two album releases through Deconstruction Records.

The song is a cover song, originally recorded by British group "Prefab Sprout" for their 1992 album "A Life Of Surprises". I hope nobody doubts Kylie's live vocal skills after watching this performance.

Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi (Music Video)

Also named "I Still Love You (Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi)" in Australia and the US, this song was the fourth single taken from Kylie's debut album "Kylie" (1988). The song was originally scheduled to be released as a double A-side with an unreleased track called "Made In Heaven", but the song did so well on it's own that those plans were scrapped and Made In Heaven was turned in to the single's B-side (a music video for this song was created though).
Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi (which is French for "I Don't Know Why") was written by Stock, Aitken, & Waterman, and it spent 3 weeks in the #2 position on the UK billboard charts.
The video features her in a 1950's inspired sweater set waiting around (In Paris) and daydreaming about dancing with her loved one.

Agent Provocateur Commercial

In 2001, Kylie became one of the many celebrity faces (and bodies)to be a spokesperson for lingerie line Agent Provocateur. As part of the campaign, she shot this cheeky 90 second commercial entitled "Proof", which was shown in movie theatres all across London (and banned in other markets).

The ad received more than 1 million hits on the Agent Provocateur website and was given the award for Best Cinema Commercial at the British TV Awards in 2003.

Kylie would later go on to release her own line of lingerie called "Love Kylie".

In November of 2007, Kylie was given the opportunity to host her very own one-off television special entitled The Kylie Show, the show was a celebration of her 20 years in the music business and also acted as promotion for the X album.

As well as performing a couple of her hit songs, Kylie and a slew of guest stars also performed a few hilarious comedy sketches in the spirit of shows like The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.

In this first clip, she performs her monster hit "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and has a back stage encounter with her ex boyfriend and Neighbours co-star Jason Donavan. The special aired on ITV in the UK on November 20th, 2007.

All I See (Music Video)

Used as the lead single from her latest album "X" (2007) when she released it in North America, All I See is a more mid-tempo r&b style song than the rest of the tracks on the record. Two versions of the song have been released in America. The album version (seen in the video above), and a remixed version featuring rapper Mims, which was released to radio and is featured as a bonus track for the American editions of X.
The song was written by Jonas Jeberg, Mich Hedin Hansen, and Edwin "Lil' Eddie" Serrano, and the black and white video was directed by Kylie's long time creative director William Baker.
It was shot in three hours while Kylie was taking a break from her rehearsals for the X tour, and features Kylie and dancer Marco da Silva dancing in front of a white background. Kylie also released an acoustic performance of the song through her official website.

Earlier this year, Kylie made an appearance on The Today Show with Matt Lauer during her promotional tour in America for her latest album "X" (2007).

The two discussed her battle with breast cancer, and why Kylie thinks it has taken her so long to break into the U.S. market.

$4 Million Set

Kylie recently confirmed that she will be performing a sixty minute set as part of the grand opening of the Atlantis Hotel Resort in Dubai. The owners of the hotly anticipated new resort located on the manmade island of Palm Jumeira are planning the most expensive private opening gala ever staged, costing an estimated $16 million.

Kylie will be performing for 2,000 A-list guests including politicians, actors, musicians, even royalty at the party which will be held November 20th, and will reportedly be getting paid a whopping $4 Million (US) for the hour long performance. Let's see the Wiggles get paid that much, eh?

A source close to Kylie has said,

"She is already planning the shows, the costumes and the songs but there is no doubt that it will be the climax to the end of her year of touring."

The island is the perfect get away spot for celebrities (mainly due to the prices) and many (including The Beckhams) already own beachfront property. This will be Kylie's first ever performance in the Middle East.

Wiggles Beat Kylie

Somehow the Australian kid entertainers The Wiggles have beaten Kylie the past four years as the richest Australian entertainers of the year, putting Kylie in second place.

The results are a part of Australian Magazine Business Review Week's annual poll that calculated that the Wiggles have earned $36 million between June 2007 and June 2008, whereas Kylie was close behind earning $32.8 million.

Other Australian performers includes in the poll were Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, and Cate Blanchett.

As I mentioned before, I Should Be So Lucky was Kylie's first official single from her debut album "Kylie" (1988). When Kylie flew to London to meet with songwriters Stock, Aitken & Waterman after the success of The Loco-motion in Australia, the three writers completely forgot that they were expecting her and wrote the song in 40 minutes while Kylie stood outside the recording studio.

It's been written that Mike Stock wrote the lyrics to the song because he believed that although she was a successful soap star in Australia, there must be something wrong with her and he figured that she must be unlucky in love. Kylie recorded the song in under an hour and returned to Australia to continue filming episode's of Neighbours.
The song was released in December of 1987 and went to #1 in both the Australian and UK charts.
The video was directed by Chris Langman and shot at Channel 7 Studio's in Melbourne, Australia. It features Kylie walking and dancing around her house and making cute faces to the camera, as well as images of her standing in front of green screen images of chalkboards and other wholesome images. In other words, being presented as the girl next door.

Released in November of 1994, "Put Yourself In My Place" was the second single taken from her self-titled "Kylie Minogue" album (1994) which was the first album to be released after Kylie moved labels and was signed to the more dance oriented Deconstruction Records.

The song reached number 11 in the UK and Australian charts, and the music video which was made in homage to the Jane Fonda film Barbarella was directed by Kier McFarlane.
The video was so well received in Australia that it won the award for best Australian video at the Australian music awards in 1995.

I didn't really know where to start, so I've decided to start at the beginning, but I will in no way be going in any kind of chronological order.

I know that technically "I Should Be So Lucky" was the first official single from Kylie's first album "Kylie" (1988), but as most of her North American fans can attest, Kylie didn't really make a splash until she released her cover of the Little Eva classic The Loco-Motion. Plus it was the song that initially got her her first recording contract so I thought it best to start here. Back in the summer of 1987, then 19 year old Kylie Ann Minogue was starring as tomboy motor mechanic Charlene Mitchell on the long-running Australian soap opera "Neighbours". When she and her fellow castmates were invited to perform at the Fitzroy Football Club Charity Gala, Kylie suggested that they all perform The Loco-Motion impromptu. The audience fell in love with the performance, and Kylie was approached by a representative from Mushroom Records to record the song as a single. The single went straight to number 1 in Australia upon it's release and remained there for a remarkable 7 weeks, becoming the top selling Australian single of the 80's.

As a result Kylie was signed to a full record deal and was flown to London to work with hitmakers Stock, Aitken & Waterman on her first full length album.

The Loco-Motion was re-recorded, and released internationally as Kylie's third single off her debut album, going to number 1 in Canada, number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US.
The video was shot at Essendon Airport and ABC Studio's in Melbourne, Australia. It's camptastic!

Sidenote: Kylie's brother Brendan makes an appearance in the video. Toward the end of the video when Kylie get's everyone together for a photo, he is the guy in the front wearing the black leather bomber jacket.

Hey there visitor, welcome to my website dedicated to everything Kylie Minogue. I have had fun (and a bit of success, reader wise) hosting my very own Spice Girls/Solo Spice Girls blog and I needed a bit of a change of pace. Now everybody gets asked who there favorite singer is, and for the longest time I have been saying many different names as an answer to this question, but I think if I really sat down and looked at the evidence, Kylie would definitely be at the top of the list, judging alone on how often I find myself listening to her. I've enjoyed her work for about 20 years now, always looking forward to the new album, new video, new dvd, whatever.
